Let's say that you've used a tubular pick tool to successfully open a lock. Nice work... you can even, if you're lucky, lock down the ring on your tubular pick and keep using it as an impromptu key, at least for a little while.
But if you want to produce a true and proper working key for that lock... you'll likely need to decode the bitting values that you just determined through picking. To do that, you'll want a tubular bitting decoder. There are many on the market, but (in our opinion) most of these tools are annoying. Typically made from cheap stamped metal (the "super long bitted key" style and the "christmas tree" style are two common designs) these tools are bulky, weighty, and often uncomfortable or awkward to hold.
The design of our tool is a remix of this work that was released by videograndpa and is being used with their permission. You could print this item on your own easily, but if you don't have a 3D printer, we are making ours available to you here.
